City launches eComment on video streaming site
Edina, Minn., Jan. 3, 2011 – The City of Edina is pleased to announce the launch of a new tool that
will strengthen citizen participation and encourage civic involvement from a broader audience. This
service allows citizens to review upcoming City Council and Park Board meeting materials and
provide comments on particular agenda items. The City recently added the Citizen Participation Suite,
which includes eComment, to its existing services from Granicus.
Prior to a meeting, citizens can log onto the City’s video streaming website and click on the
eComment link next to an upcoming meeting’s agenda. Residents and other interested parties can
then indicate their position on an item and add any additional comments related to that particular
item or leave general comments for City staff. This tool provides a convenient alternative to in-person
testimony, emails, phone calls and faxes.
“eComment is just one more way that residents and businesses can interact with their elected and
appointed officials,” said Communications & Marketing Director Jennifer Bennerotte. “People can
review a staff report and immediately offer an opinion or point of view from the video streaming site.”
This new tool will also benefit administrative staff, helping them to collect, consolidate, and route
citizen feedback through an automated process. eComments will be collected until noon the day of a
meeting.
