City, community organizations to host anti-bullying forum
Edina, Minn., April 4, 2011 – The Edina Human Rights & Relations Commission and other
community organizations will host the forum “Reflections on Bullying” Tuesday, April 26, at Edina
High School, 6754 Valley View Road.
The anti-bullying forum will begin at 6 p.m. with a public exhibition and display outside the Fick
Auditorium. Original reflections in the form of videos, artwork, essays, poetry, music, rap, oral
histories and photography are being accepted through April 18 for the display. Also being accepted
are “EdinaSecrets,” anonymous reflections submitted via postcard. Postcards can be mailed to Edina
City Hall or left in collection boxes around the community.
A screening of the short film “Bullied” will begin at 7 p.m. “Bullied” was produced by the Southern
Poverty Law Center to tell the story of Jamie Nobozny, a high school student in Wisconsin who was
a victim of school bullying.
At 8 p.m., a panel of experts from around the community will lead a forum on “Making the World a
Place Where Bullying Doesn’t Happen.” Liz Collin of WCCO will moderate the panel.
“This event brings our community together to create and promote a culture of respect in our
schools, homes, businesses and government,” said Human Rights & Relations Commissioner Meg
Newell.
Besides the Human Rights & Relations Commission, the forum is sponsored by Connecting With
Kids, Edina Community Foundation, Edina Chamber of Commerce, Edina High School Gay Straight
Alliance and Edina Resource Center.
