HomeMy WebLinkAboutAnti-bullying forum Contact: Jennifer Bennerotte, Communications & Marketing Director Phone 952-833-9520 • Fax 952-826-0389 • Web www.CityofEdina.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE City, community organizations to host anti-bullying forum Edina, Minn., April 4, 2011 – The Edina Human Rights & Relations Commission and other community organizations will host the forum “Reflections on Bullying” Tuesday, April 26, at Edina High School, 6754 Valley View Road. The anti-bullying forum will begin at 6 p.m. with a public exhibition and display outside the Fick Auditorium. Original reflections in the form of videos, artwork, essays, poetry, music, rap, oral histories and photography are being accepted through April 18 for the display. Also being accepted are “EdinaSecrets,” anonymous reflections submitted via postcard. Postcards can be mailed to Edina City Hall or left in collection boxes around the community. A screening of the short film “Bullied” will begin at 7 p.m. “Bullied” was produced by the Southern Poverty Law Center to tell the story of Jamie Nobozny, a high school student in Wisconsin who was a victim of school bullying. At 8 p.m., a panel of experts from around the community will lead a forum on “Making the World a Place Where Bullying Doesn’t Happen.” Liz Collin of WCCO will moderate the panel. “This event brings our community together to create and promote a culture of respect in our schools, homes, businesses and government,” said Human Rights & Relations Commissioner Meg Newell. Besides the Human Rights & Relations Commission, the forum is sponsored by Connecting With Kids, Edina Community Foundation, Edina Chamber of Commerce, Edina High School Gay Straight Alliance and Edina Resource Center.
