City names new Human Resources Director
Edina, Minn., June 27, 2011 – Lisa (Rund) Schaefer has accepted an offer to become the City of
Edina's new Human Resources Director.
Schaefer is currently the Human Resources Manager for the League of Minnesota Cities, where she
has worked since 2006. Prior to joining the League, she served as the Senior Human Resources
Generalist for the City of Eden Prairie from 1998 to 2006. Schaefer earned her bachelor's degree in
Applied Psychology from St. Cloud State University. She earned her master’s degree in Human
Resource Management from St. Thomas University.
“I am really pleased that Lisa has decided to join our team,” said City Manager Scott Neal. “She is an
exceptionally talented person. From her perspective at the League, she’s seen the best and the
worst in human resources management from around our state. I am looking forward to her bringing
that depth of experience and intellect into our organization. She will do great things for us here.”
The Human Resources Director position will replace the Assistant to the City Manager position.
Current Assistant to the City Manager Ceil Smith will retire in November. Brimeyer Fursman led
the initial search for the position, for which 80 people applied.
Initial goals of the position are reexamine the City’s employee classification and compensation
systems, modernize the City’s employee payroll and time-reporting systems and review the City’s
employee performance measurement and management systems. Schaefer will begin her new duties
on Monday, August 15.
