Mayor Jim Hovland will begin the ceremony with a speech at the Edina Promenade Gateway, followed by a reception 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Pinstripes, 3849 Gallagher Drive. Refreshments will be served. Free parking will be available at Gallagher Drive and France Avenue. Guests are invited to tour the parks, meet the artists and vote for their favorite sculptures. Ballots will be available at ballot boxes at the Edina Promenade and Grandview Square Park, as well as on the Edina Art Center’s website. All ballots are due Sept. 30 and can be turned in at the parks’ ballot boxes or mailed to the Edina Art Center, 4701 W. 64th St., Edina, MN 55435. First-, second- and third-place winners will be selected for 2011 People’s Choice Awards at the beginning of October. Sculptures were selected by the Public Art Committee based on artistic merit, creativity, public safety and durability in an outdoor setting. Previous winners of the People’s Choice Awards were invited back to display their sculptures again this year, but will not be eligible to win a 2011 award. “I’m excited to see people interact with the artwork,” said Perci Chester, winner of the 2009 first-place People’s Choice Award for her piece “Gyr Family Cycle.” “It’s a joy to know that it’s out in the public space.” Her newest artwork, “Steelie Sphere,” is a 13-foot tall construction of painted steel rings on display at Grandview Square Park. The Edina Promenade is more of a walkway; Grandview has a different feel because visitors can sit on a bench and contemplate, said Chester. The sculptures will be on display until May 2012 when they will be changed for the 2012 artwork. Sculptures on loan to the City can be purchased through the Edina Community Foundation for private or public use.
