The Slumberland Making a Difference Award honors the measurable changing of one life, with one piece of video storytelling. Edina Community Channel 16 (EDINA 16) was selected for the award for its story “The Moses Miracle.” In the spring of 2010, the Rotary Club of Edina brought 6-year- old cross-eyed Moses Mwaura from the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, to Edina where he underwent surgery to correct his eyes and damaged teeth. EDINA 16 followed the process and produced a documentary for its talk show “In Edina.” Communications & Marketing Director Jennifer Bennerotte accepted a handsome plaque for the honor at the Emmys Gala. As part of the award, Slumberland also donated furniture to the Rotary Club of Edina, which in turn donated it to one of the non-profit organizations it supports, the N.C. Little Memorial Hospice in Edina. The chairs and end table will be used to furnish a chapel at the hospice. “The EDINA 16 team works hard to produce content for the government access channel that informs the community about their local government and happenings in the community,” Bennerotte said. “It is very humbling to be recognized not only for sharing that valuable information, but for making a difference in the community we serve.” Liz Collin of WCCO-TV also received a Making a Difference Award for her story on Hannah Kozitza, who choked on a grape at Golden HeartChild CareCenter in North Mankato and later died at a hospital. Collin’s story led to a change in legislation requiring all daycare workers in Minnesota to be trained in CPR.
