The 528 9-volt batteries were distributed to some of Edina’s kindergarten classes. A note attached to each battery reminded parents to check and change the batteries in smoke alarms when they changed back their clocks for daylight savings time. “It’s vital to teach kids while they are young the importance of fire prevention,” Edina Fire Marshal Tom Jenson said. “Giving these batteries allows parents the opportunity to talk with their kids about changing batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, what to do in case of an emergency and practice an escape plan. “Daylight savings time is a great annual reminder for everyone to change batteries in smoke and CO alarms. Working alarms provides the best protection against fire and CO for your family.” For more information, contact Jenson at 952-826-0378. -30-
