Post 925 placed second in the Domestic Crisis competition and third in the Hostage Negotiations and Search and Arrest competitions. More than 200 Explorers from around the state competed at the October conference, working through scenarios that reflected real life law enforcement situations such as burglary response, interview and interrogation, white collar crime and first aid. Explorer Post 925 is made up of 38 Edina and Eden Prairie students interested in law enforcement, ranging in age from 14 to 20. The Explorers learn firsthand about the law enforcement profession through lectures, practical scenarios, ride-alongs and volunteering with the police department. Post 925 is part of a national program that includes more than 33,000 Explorers and 8,425 adult advisors. “The key to Post 925’s success has been the enthusiasm and dedication that the Explorers give the post,” said Officer Kenna Dick, one of post’s advisors. “Every time we meet, the Explorers always show up on time, ready to go. They are eager to learn and have a passion for law enforcement. “The program provides the structure and resources needed for these young adults to make ethical choices, build self-worth and self-confidence. As one of the five proud advisors of Explorer Post 925, I see firsthand what the program provides to the students and it is truly amazing.” Dick said members of Post 925 are looking forward to next year when they will compete at the Rochester State Competition and National Competition in Fort Collins, Colo. Post 925 meets every Tuesday at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility in Edina. For more information, contact Dick at 952-848-3809 or KDick@ci.edina.mn.us. -30-
