Popular sculpture reinstalled at new location in Centennial
Lakes Park
“Reflecting on Friendship” by Edina resident Nicholas Legeros can now be viewed
outside Hughes Pavilion
Edina, Minn., Dec. 22, 2011 – Christmas came a few days early today for local art lovers,
courtesy of the Edina Community Foundation. “Reflecting on Friendship,” an award-winning, bronze
sculpture by local artist Nicholas Legeros, now graces the front walkway to Hughes Pavilion at
Centennial Lakes Park, 7499 France Ave. S.
The popular piece, which along with its sandstone plinth measures about four feet tall, captures two
preschool-aged children in the act of chasing and popping bubbles. Centennial Lakes Park regulars
may recognize “Reflecting on Friendship” from its previous location along the Edina Promenade,
where it won a People’s Choice Award in 2010.
“The Promenade is a fantastic venue for art, but the gazebo [adjoining Hughes Pavilion] is the ideal
location for a piece like this,” Legeros said. “Since ‘Reflecting on Friendship’ stands less than three
feet tall without its base, it is much easier to appreciate in an indoors setting.”
The new position outside Hughes Pavilion offers good lighting and sees steady pedestrian traffic in all
seasons. In addition, the bronzed reflection of the bubbles at the top of the sculpture complements
the gazebo by giving viewers a unique look at its interior architecture.
The piece is worthy of the new, prominent location, said Dick Crocket, Executive Director of the
Edina Community Foundation, who made the reinstallation projection possible. He and his wife,
Suzie, donated money to the Foundation for the acquisition. “We like everything about it – from the
name and theme to the quality of workmanship.”
“One of the Foundation’s goals is to beautify the community with works of art,” Crocket added. To
that end, “Nick’s is a very exciting addition.”
Additional pieces available for public viewing courtesy of the Edina Community Foundation’s
philanthropy include the sculptures “Raven,” on display in the main lobby at City Hall, 4801 W. 50th
St., and “Otter,” now located at Edinborough Park, 7700 France Ave. S.
