The awards were announced May 11 during a luncheon ceremony at NAGC’s annual conference in St. Paul. EDINA 16 received third-place Award of Excellence in the “Documentary” category of the competition. First place was awarded to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for “Helluva Way to Treat a Soldier” and a second-place award given to the United States Geological Survey and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service for “The Heat is On: Desert Tortoises and Survival.” “The Moses Miracle” followed the Rotary Club of Edina last spring when they brought 6-year-old Moses Mwaura to Minnesota from Africa to have his crossed eyes surgically corrected and to repair his damaged teeth. Until this life-changing experience, Moses had lived in the slums of Nairobi. EDINA 16’s Aaron Klein and Steve Christiansen worked on the project, along with former Communications Coordinator Marty Doll. More than 430 entries in 38 categories were received and judged by a prestigious panel of experts and merited a total of 39 first-place awards, 37 second-place awards and 59 Awards of Excellence. Nineteen of the winning entries were from county or city government agencies. “The Moses Miracle” was one of just two winners from Minnesota. The City of Roseville also won an Award of Excellence in a video category.
