The program highlights individuals who in their work or daily lives embrace MADD’s mission to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking. At the MADD event, Officers Travis Larson, Ryan Banaszewski and Jesse Penman were recognized for each making more than 25 DUI arrests in 2022. Officer Mike Sussman received a higher recognition for making over 50 DUI arrests. “The Edina Police Department has traditionally been very proactive in preventing, identifying and apprehending impaired drivers,” said Sgt. Jake Heckert. “Officers Sussman, Penman, Larson and Banaszewski took a leading role in promoting safe roads for the residents of Edina in 2022 while still performing the other tasks and duties assigned to them as officers. While there is no way to measure the exact number of lives saved by removing the impaired drivers from the road, the actions of these officers have undoubtedly prevented innocent motorists from suffering injury or worse.” For more information about the Edina Police Department, visit EdinaMN.gov/Police. -30-
