Classes offered through the Edina Art Center are: Hot Glass Social – This introduction into glass blowing class for ages 14 and older will be held Saturday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This class gives the public an opportunity to learn about the fascinating history of glass along with glassblowing demos by Foci. Next it’s time for aspiring artists to roll up their sleeves, pick up a tool, and make their own colorful paperweight. The cost is $85 per non-member or $77 per member. Glass Sculpture – This glass sculpture class for students in Grades 3-6 will be held Saturday, March 20, from 1 to 2 p.m. Those who like to play with sand should imagine making a glass sculpture creation in one hour. In this class, students will work with the Foci staff to design a one-of-a-kind sand mold, then watch as hot molten glass is ladled in bringing their designs to life. No experience is required and adults are welcome to attend if they wish. The cost for this class is $45 per non- member or $41per member. “We’re thrilled to let our students know about these collaborative workshops and pleased to promote the mission of Foci by offering Edina Art Center students an opportunity to work with a medium that the Art Center does not offer,” said Diana Hedges, Edina Art Center Director. Former Edina resident, Liz Fink, is also pleased to hear about the collaboration. "As a young artist growing up in Edina, I was fortunate to have the Edina Art Center as a creative resource. Now, as a staff member at Foci Glass, I am thrilled to see these two creative centers merge their efforts to empower local artists," she said. Foci/MCGA provides the surrounding community with a series of introductory experiences, classes and workshops. Artists can rent a bench by the hour that includes all equipment as well as the cold and kiln-casting studios. Foci, along with other local glass artists, organizes a twice-yearly show to exhibit its work. The studio is located at 2010 East Hennepin Ave. in Minneapolis. The Edina Art Center, 4701 W. 64th St., provides the community with a place to enjoy art and a chance to learn how to create it. The Art Center is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
