Centennial Lakes, a 24-acre park and pond, offers the ultimate urban escape. The park features more than 1.5 miles of paved pathways meandering around a 10-acre lake and interspersed with beautifully landscaped grounds, formal and informal seating areas, swinging benches and fountains. During the summer months, visitors can rent paddleboats; fish in the ponds for sunfish, bass and bullheads; watch remote-controlled sailboat races; explore the maze; or try their luck on the bent grass putting course or croquet and lawn bowling courts. Centennial Lakes Park's 18 manicured bent grass greens range in length from 57 to 125 feet and are surrounded by sand traps, ponds, boulders and planter beds. Players use only a putter to negotiate these heavily undulated greens. This par 51 layout is 1,662 feet in length and takes approximately an hour and 45 minutes to play. All ages and abilities are welcome, however, due to the difficulty of the course it is recommended that players be 8 years of age and older. The Park features championship caliber croquet and lawn bowling courts. These lush bent grass lawns are some of the finest in the Midwest. Courts may be rented by the hour, with all equipment and written instructions included in the court fee. Hours through Memorial Day are 2 p.m. to sunset Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to sunset Saturday and Sunday. After May 29, summer hours will be 10 a.m. to sunset daily. Cost is $8 per person for 18 holes on the putting course. Lawn bowling and croquet courts are $15 per court per hour. Paddleboats are $7 per boat per half hour.
