PDI to host community forum on preferred qualities and
qualifications of next City Manager
Edina, Minn., April 30, 2010 – Edina residents are being asked what they think the City Council should be
looking for in Edina’s next City Manager.
The City Council recently hired Personnel Decisions International, known as PDI, to lead the search and
selection process. After 36 years of service, City Manager Gordon Hughes will retire July 30. PDI will provide a
full search for his replacement, including development of the candidate profile, recruitment, screening, evaluation,
final assessment and a six-month performance review.
PDI will hold a special meeting Wednesday, May 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. to hear from residents about the qualities
and qualifications they feel are important in a new City Manager. PDI representatives will give a short
presentation on the roles and responsibilities of the City Council and City Manager and then take comments
from the public. Written comments will also be accepted and residents will have the opportunity to volunteer
for a future interview panel. PDI will use the comments given at the meeting, along with information from City
Council and staff interviews, to develop the candidate profile.
