Park Board seeks volunteers for Veterans Memorial project
Edina, Minn., April 15, 2010 – The Edina Park and Recreation Department is seeking volunteers
to serve as Veterans Memorial Committee members or project volunteers.
On Jan. 12, the Edina Park Board voted unanimously to form a Veterans Memorial Committee to
study the concept of developing a Veterans Memorial at an Edina park. Preliminary ideas include the
development of a statue and granite structures to be permanently placed at Utley Park at 50th Street
and Wooddale Avenue. The purpose is to honor all Edina Veterans of our nation’s armed forces, but
especially those Edina residents who were killed in action.
The Park Board is looking for volunteers (residents and non-residents) who are willing to commit to a
two-year process that will include hiring an architect and engineer, recommending a memorial design
that honors Edina’s veterans, researching KIA records, helping with fundraising and marketing efforts,
and assisting with the administration and implementation of the project.
