‘What WORKS For You?’ small area guide process
continues
Edina, Minn., April 23, 2010 – A number of Edina residents and City officials have been working diligently
together to paint a picture of the future for a piece of City property on Eden Avenue.
Dozens of volunteers were on hand earlier this month to kick off a small area guide process meant to determine
the community’s preferred use for Edina’s existing Public Works site at 5146 Eden Ave. The Public Works and
Park Maintenance departments are moving their operations from the three-acre site to a new facility this
summer. The City will then need to make a decision on what to do with the vacant property.
The small area guide process is being led by a Community Advisory Team (CAT) and supported by a team of
resident volunteer design and planning professionals. Edina’s Planning Commission and staff have been providing
technical insights and support throughout the process. Members of the CAT are Andy Brown, Steve Buss, Larry
Chestler, Sue Davison, Lisa Diehl, Greg Domke, Nancy Grazzini-Olson, Brian Hedberg, Ellen Jones, Kim
Montgomery, Linda Odell Cowles, Joann Olsen, Gene Persha, Michael Platterer, Chris Rofidal, Bob Shadduck,
Josh Sprague and Kevin Staunton. Members of the design team are architects Mia Blanchett, Scott Davidson,
Meriwether Felt, Peter MacDonagh, Tim McLwain, Jim Miller and Peter Sussman and landscape architect Michael
Schroeder. Schroeder also serves as the group’s Team Leader.
An open house will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 26, at Edina City Hall, to share with the public the work
the teams have completed to date. A refinement meeting will be held 6 p.m. April 27 at City Hall. Concepts will
be presented to the Planning Commission April 28. The Planning Commission and City Council will hold a work
session in May to review the work and recommendations of the volunteers.
