South Parking Ramp at 50th & France Reopen for Public Use
Edina, Minn., Aug. 4, 2023 – The South Parking Ramp at 50th & France, 4050 W. 51st St., reopened Friday, Aug. 4, after having been temporarily closed for maintenance and repairs.
The four-level ramp, originally constructed in 1968, was temporarily closed in June so contractors could safely complete annual maintenance, including necessary structural repairs. With
input from engineering firm Kimley-Horn and Associates and construction contractor RAM Construction Services, the City decided to temporarily close the parking facility during the repairs
out of an abundance of caution for public safety.
The most complex work included the reconstruction of five concrete support columns on the street level that were decaying due to age and weather conditions. While initially only four
columns were marked for reconstruction, a fifth column was identified by the contractor during the closure period and also rebuilt.
In addition to completing the necessary structural repairs, the City maximized this time to complete several other maintenance projects simultaneously, including smaller concrete repairs,
electrical work, lighting repair, painting and cleaning.
Although the South Ramp is now reopen and available for public use, improvement work will continue for about one more month. During this time, the contractor will complete less intrusive
repairs, including restoration and repainting of stairwells.
“The City thanks customers and employees for their patience during the temporary closure. We recognize that temporary changes in parking habits can be disruptive, but are pleased that
the South Ramp is better, brighter and safer as businesses gear up for the busy fall and holiday seasons,” said Economic Development Manager Bill Neuendorf.
