Contest winners were chosen by a panel of judges from among 88 submitted photographs. Winners were presented plaques and awards at the Monday, Aug. 2 meeting of the Edina City Council at 7 p.m. Judges chose winning photographs in five categories that represent the City’s vision statement, which proclaims Edina as “the preeminent place for living, learning, raising families and doing business. “ Of the five category winners, one photo was chosen as “Best of Show.” In addition, a “Staff Choice” award was given by Communications & Marketing staff. The winners of the 2010 Images of Edina Contest are:  “Lake Ripples,” by Diane Schroeder, winner of the “Living-People” category and “Best of Show.”  “Dragonfly,” by Connie Greiman, which depicts a bright green dragonfly on a piece of wood, winner of the “Living-Plants/Wildlife” category.  “First Day of Kindergarten,” by Sonja Ritchie Roy, which depicts a young girl ascending stairs for the first day of school, winner of the “Learning” category.  “Drinking Up Summer,” by Paul Zdechlik, which depicts two children drinking from a sprinkler, winner of the “Raising Families” category.  “Taking a Business Call,” by Cacky Wyatt-Bell , which depicts a woman taking a phone call in an Edina park, winner of the “Doing Business” category.  “Joy,” by Dave Dettman, which depicts children running on a playground, winner of the “Staff Choice” award. Each photo was judged on subject matter, composition, clarity, depth of field, lighting, quality of color or black and white, artistry and drama, degree of difficulty, Edina relevance and overall impact. This year’s judges included Bret Ryan, Art Director for Edina Magazine; Pat Brink of Brink PR; and Jolene Goldade, Communications Manager for Edina Public Schools. Winning photos will be framed and hung in the Finance Department at City Hall, along with the winners of the 2009 contest. The deadline for the 2011 Images of Edina Photo Contest is mid-June 2011.
