Edina Liquor patrons donate nearly 500 pounds of food to VEAP
Edina, Minn., Nov. 19, 2009 – While food donations were down from last year, Edina Liquor was still able to collect
nearly 500 pounds of food during Minnesota’s second-annual Municipal Liquor Food Drive held in October.
For the second year, municipal liquor stores across the state worked with the Minnesota Municipal Beverage
Association (MMBA) and MillerCoors Brewing to collect non-perishable food items for local food shelves. Last year, 120
municipal liquor stores collected more than 11 tons of food. The total amount of food collected this year is still being
counted.
Through generous donations from its patrons, Edina Liquor collected 480 pounds of food at its three locations,
compared to 905 pounds collected last year. The Grandview store on Vernon Avenue collected 260 pounds, while the
Southdale and 50th & France stores collected 110 pounds of food each.
Food collected in Edina was donated to Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP), a local non-profit agency serving
low-income, elderly and disabled persons in the communities of Bloomington, Edina, Richfield and south Minneapolis.
