The juvenile was brought to the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center. Around 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, the Edina Police Department received information of a threat that occurred earlier in the day at the Edina High School, 6754 Valley View Road. The teenage boy took a Snapchat video of himself in the parking lot of the high school with a semi-automatic handgun and extended magazine in his lap. The caption in the video said, “Come outside, b***h,” and the end of the Snapchat video captured the doors of the school. The teenager then left the campus. The Edina Police Department, in partnership with the FBI and the Minneapolis Police Department, worked overnight to identify the teenager, who was located and arrested in the 1500 block of East Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis. He is not a former or current student at Edina High School. Early in its investigation, the Police Department contacted Edina Public Schools. Out of an abundance of caution, the school district made the decision to move Edina High School and Valley View Middle School to online learning Friday, Sept. 15, while the Police Department investigated. The incident remains under investigation and no further public information is available at this time. Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn and Edina Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Stacie Stanley will be available for interviews 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the Edina Police Department, 4801 W. 50th St. For more information about the Edina Police Department, visit EdinaMN.gov/Police. -30-
