It will be celebrated nationally May 5-12 in 2024, with the City of Edina’s educational event to be held around the time of national commemoration. Edina hosts Days of Remembrance each year in memory of victims of the Holocaust and to encourage respect for all people. The Commission plans to appoint two or three residents to the working group who will work two to six hours per month. Work will start in late 2023 or early 2024 and continue through the event in May. Joni Bennett, a Commissioner planning the event, said of the opportunity, “Days of Remembrance is an important, meaningful commemoration of the Holocaust. Volunteers will be able to help shape the event with their perspectives, show support for others in our community, engage in fulfilling work with fellow volunteers and develop leadership skills.” The working group will develop the theme and agenda for the event, identify speakers, help publicize the event and assist with day-of logistics. To apply for the working group, visit EdinaMN.gov/Volunteer. Applications are due Nov. 13. Appointments will be made at the Commission’s November meeting.
