WELCOMING WEEK
September 8-17, 2023
WHEREAS, Welcoming Week is about bringing neighbors together across lines of difference to
build relationships and work together on shared goals; and
WHEREAS, the City of Edina is home to people of all backgrounds. The vision of the City is to
ensure all people have the opportunity to thrive and all residents feel welcome. New
residents are a vital part of our community, along with our long-time residents, bringing
ideas, starting businesses, serving in civic roles, working in industries and contributing to
the vibrant diversity that we value; and
WHEREAS, to focus on diversity as an asset, our community must strive to create a culture and
policies that ensure everyone can belong and thrive; and
WHEREAS, by fostering a welcoming environment for all—regardless of immigration status, race,
ethnicity, place of origin, English language proficiency, religion, income, gender, sexual
orientation, differing abilities, age, and other factors—we enhance Edina’s health,
economic prosperity and well-being for current and future generations; and
WHEREAS, to maximize resources and impact, the City of Edina is collaborating with the cities of
Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Richfield and Savage to collectively celebrate Welcoming
Week and have several activities scheduled throughout the week.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Edina, Minnesota do
hereby proclaim September 8-17, 2023, as:
WELCOMING WEEK
