Individuals must limit their comments to three minutes. The Chair may limit the number of speakers on the same issue in the interest of time and topic. Generally speaking, items that are elsewhere on tonight's agenda may not be addressed during Community Comment. Individuals should not expect the Chair or Board/Commission Members to respond to their comments tonight. Instead, the Board/Commission might refer the matter to sta% for consideration at a future meeting. Call To Order The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m. II. Roll Call Answering roll call were Commissioners Chandler, Hegley, Isaacs, Klein, Konkimalla, Miller, Morgan-Nelsen, Pardo, Rubin, and Suckow Absent: Martin, Suckow Staff present: Staff Liaison Susan Tarnowski Guests: Shannon Steven, Dick Crockett III. Approval Of Meeting Agenda Motion made by Isaacs to approve the meeting agenda. Motion seconded by Chandler. Motion carried. IV. Approval of Meeting Minutes Motion made by Hegley to approve the February 28, 2019 minutes. Motion seconded by Chandler. Motion carried. V. Special Recognitions and Presentations A. Presentation of “Better Together” A presentation was made by MJ Lamon, Community engagement Coordinator, on initiative and website to enhance participation in City-Community communications. VI. Community Comment Community member Bob Moore shared information on a large piece of art stored by a relative of Dorothy Berge that is currently stored at Southdale. This was originally part of a large investment in public art in Edina by several parties. Simon properties currently own it. He suggests that the ACC may want to initiate a Legacy funding request for its restoration and display. VII. Reports/Recommendations A. Introduction of new Commission member Peggy Martin. Commissioner Martin was not able to attend. B. Election of ACC chair and vice-Chair for 2019-2020 Motion made by Chandler to approve on the nomination of Russ Rubin as Chair for 2019-2020. Motion seconded by Klein. Motion carried. Motion made by Rubin to approve on the nomination of Anne Miller as Vice-Chair for 2019-2020. Motion seconded by Chandler. Motion carried. C. Public Art 2019 Projects Dick Crockett shared the involvement and the investment of the Edina community Foundation in Public Art in Edina. He noted the ECF program services, the Community Impact partners, the Bold New Ideas program, Tradition Pass It On. ECF structure and funding structure was also shared. Shannon Steven presented a proposal to hold a student sculpture contest in 2019. She shared information on the contest in 2017-2018 and outlined the benefits of the project. Commissioners discussed the proposed project and the care of existing art works. Interest was expressed in broadening the project to include older students, perhaps as mentors. Motion made by Hegley to collaborate with the Edina Community Foundation to support the student sculpture contest in spring 2019. Motion seconded by Isaacs. Motion carried. D. Update on Comprehensive Plan Open Meeting Hegley reported that there was a short large-group presentation and posters of each chapter. A small number of community members came to engage in conversation. E. Update on Focus Groups for Art at Pentagon Park South Klein participated and said the other participants were largely corporate or government employees. Was interesting to learn about Edina public parks and plans for this site. Good outcome: a gathering of people to talk about art together. F. Update on Workgroup meetings with HRRC Rubin reported the cross-commission meeting was attended by four members of the ACC and the Chair of the HRRC; key next steps were identified and agreed upon. The Remembrance Day Committee is working towards an event with a speaker who is a survivor from Paris; Klein said artwork by students from the French Immersion School will also be presented. Isaacs agreed to participate on the collaborative initiative that is #3 on the ACC work plan. VIII. Chair and Member Comments Hegley is planning to send pre-work to all Commissioners prior to the visioning Session for Public Art that will take place during an expanded ACC meeting on April 25, 2019. HRRC members have been invited to participate. IX. Staff Comments Tarnowski reminded Commissioners of the exhibits and featured artists at the Art Center in conjunction with Claytopia!, the annual conference for the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, held in Minneapolis that week. Members of the Human Rights and Relations Commission have been invited to participate.
