Spokes, Char Scanlon, Liz Eisenbrey, Don Peddie, Dodie Paul, Art Dickey, Sandy Clark MEMBERS ABSENT: Merry Krueger, Suzie Kelm STAFF PRESENT: Bob Kojetin, Pat Greer, Diana Hedges, Mollie Paulson I. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:30 a.m. II. APPROVAL OF THE SEPTEMBER 22, 1991 MINUTES Ms. Dege changed her statement in Sec. A of the minutes. She noted that when she turned in her membership dues late, the membership was begun again from the date of receipt, thus giving her a free membership for two months. She suggested the renewal letter be revised to indicate continuing membership. The EAC is losing money if they do this for others. Ms. Paul remarked that she had also attended the reception for Jane Riffey. Peter R. Spokes MOVED TO APPROVE THE SEPTEMBER 22 MINUTES. Don Peddie SECONDED THE MOTION. MINUTES APPROVED. III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT A. Arti Gras - Mr. Spokes commented that the Edina Art Center does not have the number of volunteers that the Federated Women's Club has to work on Arti Gras. Ms. Hedges said that the Art Center will make up for the number of people working by helping in other areas. She also asked for someone to head the steering committee for EAC. Mr. Spokes asked that the dates for mailing, etc., should be firm soon. As Hedges stated with the approval of Mary Nelson that the January dates would be as written. Ms. Paul and Ms. Dege volunteered to help with the mailing. She also said that usually a partial payment is expected in procuring large donations such as the trip. Ms. Greer recommended that raffle tickets be sold at all the Edina city facilities. She also volunteered to help on the raffle committee. Ms. Eisenbrey added that she would distribute raffle tickets. Ms. Hedges reported that Peggy Kelly would work on the clean-up committee. B. Other Barnes and Noble Ms. Hedges recommended that board members attend the Barnes and Noble evening in tribute to the Edina Art Center. Mr. Van Valkenburg said that he will try to attend to receive the presentation of their book donations for the EAC library. Memberships Ms. Hedges commented that $260 had been collected by renewals in memberships since the Art Center notified lapsed members. Tour to New Mexico Ms. Hedges reported that the informational meeting regarding the trip to New Mexico was well attended. She said that 12 - 13 people made reservations that evening and the tour will definitely take place. Finances Mr. Spokes asked about the financial statement. Ms. Hedges commented that we are still in a deficit situation. Mr. Spokes recommended that we might solicit from other than those people targeted for Arti Gras. He asked that he and Ms. Hedges meet on that proposal before the next meeting. Gallery and Giftshop Ms. Paulson reported that giftshop sales were still ahead of last year by approximately $2000. She thanked those who attended the "Humor in Art" opening and said that about 150 attended that day. She commented that there is an ongoing faculty exhibit at the Community Center meeting room, a "Realism in Watercolor" exhibit at Marquette Bank Edina through December, and a Sharon McKisson exhibit at Braemar women's lounge and Ice Arena. She also noted that next month the Holiday Sale Exhibit will open on November 3 and that at the Marquette Bank Edina, Harold Wendorf will display his jewelry and Suzanne Nelson will show her ceramics. Fall 2 Schedule Ms. Hedges showed a copy of the schedule that just went to print. She also pointed out Ms. Paul's ad for pet portraits in it, and said that we hope to have more ads such as that to defray expenses. V. Edinborough Ms. Greer commented that the Jane Zins Riffey exhibit is still on at the Centrum in Centennial Lakes. She also reported that David Nelson is exhibiting photography at Edinborough this month and next month will feature Phyllis Haywa and two of her students. In December Steve Linder will be exhibiting photography. Ms. Greer distributed Edinborough Park to calendars.
