II. APPROVAL OF NOVEMBER 17, 1988, MINUTES
Harriette Bach MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 17, 1988, MEETING. Betty
Paugh seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED.
III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT
See attached. Diana indicated the need to set up a committee for the juried art
show. Kathryn Bennett will chair the juried art show. It was suggested Lee Heikens
be invited to the first committee meeting. Possible volunteers for the committee
are: Pat Greer, Peter Spokes, Mollie Paulson, Kathleen Currie, Betty Hemstad, Art
Dickey.
IV. BUILDING PROGRAM UPDATE
Mr. Van Valkenburg indicated the building committee is trying to determine what the
cost if and how to raise money and dedicate funds from the Park Department. The plan
received a favorable response at the joint Park Board/Council meeting in December.
It is proposed to add a sculpture and painting studio/multi-purpose room. It would
be approximately 18' by 24' and would have an outdoor deck on top of it. The
sculpture studio would have its own sink. This makes the total cost approximately
$150-160,000. The whole Art Center will be handicap accessible; there will be no
stairs or ramps. Diana asked the board to express any comments after they have
reviewed this phase of the plans.
V. CELEBRATE THE ARTS
Sandra Clark reported Celebrate the Arts will be held at Braemar Clubhouse on March
11. There will be 15 tables expanding into the grill area. This year's theme is
Carrousel. Final approval is needed on the invitations, but the centerpieces are
finished. The silent auction items will be set up around the beverage area. There
will be valet parking as last year, but the caterer will be different. Ticket prices
are $50, $75, and $100. There is the possibility of listing donors on the program.

VI. EDINBOROUGH REPORT
Pat Greer reported Marion Alsted's watercolor show is going on now. There was a good
crowd at the opening. She reminded the board that the public is welcome for lunch at
the senior highrise from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. The shuttle bus between Edinborough
openings and Art Center openings has been discontinued due to lack of use.
VII. OTHER
Sharon Hale reported she will propose to the Edina Foundation that the Art Center
chair 1989 Edinamite and receive 100 percent of the proceeds for our building fund,
Mr. Van Valkenburg followed up on establishing a "Friends of the Art Center" as a
vehicle for fund raising. He said we could use the Edina Foundation as a "bank
account" for donations to the building fund.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
**The next Art Center board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 16, at 7:30 a.m.**
