I. CALL TO ORDER

II. APPROVAL OF FEBRUARY 16, 1989. MINUTES
Dodie Paul MOVED TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY
JAMES VAN VALKENBURG'S WRITTEN AMENDMENTS AS FOLLOWS:
"Building Program Update" should report that hopefully
of the dedicated funds that have already been received
16,1989, MEETING SUBJECT TO
The paragraph regarding
the Art Center could get some
by the Park Department. At
the joint Park Board/Council meeting in December 1988, a proposal was not made, but
it was stated that we were working on a proposal and would get back to them with the
details. They were favorable as to the operation of the Art Center but made no
comments on the building itself. Judy Smith seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED.
III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT
See attached.
The Art Center is receiving more publicity, through the efforts of Suzie Kelm,
Publicity Director, i.e. the February 17 segment of the TV show, Good Company,
mentioned using the Edina Art Center for birthday parties.
Diana also mentioned the Mayor's Commendation Night. She asked the Board to consider
nominations to be discussed at the March meeting.
IV. BUILDING PLAN UPDATE
Mr. Dickey reported that no revisions have been made since the plans were discussed
at the February meeting. The Board will receive a full packet of updates at the
April meeting.
V. CELEBRATE THE ARTS UPDATE
Mrs. Clark reported that $800 has been received which is ten people. Five people so
far are unable to come but all have made a donation. This year we sent 361+
invitations; last year we sent 214 invitations. March 1 is the deadline for written
silent auction items. Mrs. Clark needs volunteers for set-up. Liz Eisenbrey, Peter
Spokes, Dodie Paul, and Judy Smith volunteered.

Mrs. Hale reported the dinner plans are complete. The City may donate Centennial
wine. She is checking on the entertainment.
VI. EDINAMITE REPORT
Mrs. Hale reported that if the Art Center sponsors 1989 Edinamite, the profits would
be split 50-50 between the Foundation and the Art Center. They will provide all
up-front money; The Art Center would be in charge of sending out invitations, silent
auction, thank you notes to silent auction donators, beverages, and food. Edinamite
attendance may be increased by having a consistent date i.e. second Saturday in
November at Edinborough. Edinamite auction items will be easier to ask for than
Celebrate the Arts because the profit could go to the Art Center building fund and
not the operating fund. The silent auction could be a way to get art out in front of
a lot of people. So far, the Art Center is the only group that has applied to the
Foundation to sponsor Edinamite.
Judy Smith MOVED THAT WE APPLY FOR THE SPONSORSHIP OF EDINAMITE. Dodie Paul seconded
the motion. There was a discussion on the problem of getting auction items for two
Art Center projects. Mrs. Hale said there is a big difference between the two
because Celebrate the Arts is a private party, and Edinamite is a casual,
carnival-type atmosphere evening. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
There was a discussion on applying each year for part of the proceeds from the
Foundation from Edinamite.
VI. EDINBOROUGH REPORT
Pat Greer was not present but prepared the attached report.
Meeting adjourned at 8:35 a.m.
