II. APPROVAL OF THE MARCH 15. 1990 MINUTES
Betty Paugh MOVED TO APPROVE THE MARCH 15, 1990 MINUTES. Arthur Dickey
SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED.
III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT
a. Finances - Ms. Hedges stated that the weekly recap looks very good.
b. Galleria - Ms. Hedges indicated that they were very pleased with how
the Galleria event turned out. The event raised $4,000.00. Ms. Hedge's
stated they will be looking into another event with the Galleria.
c. Donor Tile Board - Ms. Hedges passed out a sheet with an example of
what the tiles will look like. The size of the tiles will be 6" X 6" and
there will only be 224 tiles available. The Board did make some
suggestions on the tiles. One suggestion was that it looked a little like
grade school art and maybe should be more professional. A point was
brought up that if people are paying money they should be able to design
whatever they want on their tile.
Another suggestion that was brought up was to have four different designs
already done and a person can pick which design they like the best. Ms.
Hedges didn't think this would work since some tiles have already been sold
and they are all very different. The only continuity of the tile is the
size and background color.
Mr. Van Valkenburg asked if anyone on the board had any objections to
advertising on these tiles? The Board agreed that they will take money
from anyone who wants to buy a tile. Ms. Hedges indicated that this is a
$20,000.00 fundraiser. We will not limit anyone to just one tile. People
can buy as many as they like.
d. Membership - It was noted that membership is up from last year and is
showing a steady increase.
e. Exhibits;- Ms. Paulson indicated that this year the Edina Garden
Council will be exhibiting some arrangements and beautifying the outside
gardens. There will be instructors painting some of the flower
arrangements. This should be a fun event.
f. 50th and France Art Fair - Ms. Hedges indicated that everything is
pretty well organized for the Art Fair. Ms. Hedges feels there will be a
big crowd at the fair. The Art Center will be doing face painting and they
will be doing a mega sculpture of the Eiffel Tower.
g. - Juried Show - Ms. Hedges indicated that there is a mapped out schedule
of events for the Juried Show. Mr. Peddie is working on letters. He will
sign and write personal notes on each letter. At this time we need some
more businesses to help support the show. Ms. Paulson indicated that she
will need some volunteers to help. Also, any input on businesses and
anyone interested in doing some calling would be helpful. At this time
there are some perspective judges for the Juried Show.
IV. BOARD JOB DESCRIPTIONS -
Mr. Van Valkenburg indicated that some Board members have expressed an
interest in changing job duties. Mr. Van Valkenburg asked the Board to
volunteer for the projects they want to work on by the next Board meeting.
Ms. Dege indicated that she works full-time and that makes it hard to be on
a lot of committees.
Marion Ward indicated that she has decided that she will take on the
responsibilities of Volunteer Coordinator.
V. BUILDING -
Mr. Dickey indicated that the building is almost finished. The final
inspection will be May 25, 1990. Everything seems to be going well. Mr.
Kojetin indicated that he feels if there is a grand opening he would like
the grounds to be done also. The grounds will be done by Park Maintenance
people. The crews will not be able to start until the end of June. It
would be nice to have the opening the end of July or beginning of August.
It was asked if the Juried Show could be tied in with the opening. Mr.
Kojetin felt this would be too much.
VI. OTHER -
Dodie Paul showed the Board a photograph she had taken which received
Honorable Mention in the Natural History Magazine.
VII. ADJOURNMENT -
Meeting adjourned at 8:15 a.m.
