Spokes, James Van Valkenburg, Don Peddie, Judy Smith, Liz Eisenbrey MEMBERS ABSENT: Betty Paugh, Sandra Clark, Susan Kelm STAFF PRESENT: Bob Kojetin, Diana Hedges, Mollie Paulson, Janet Canton I. CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Van Valkenburg called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. II. APPROVAL OF THE SEPTEMBER 20, 1990 MINUTES Judy Smith MOVED TO APPROVE THE SEPTEMBER 20, 1990 MINUTES. Art Dickey SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED. III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT A. Classes - Ms. Hedges indicated that fall sign up is going very well. People who are now signed up in a class, will get preference for the fall sessions. Class schedules will be done by the Opening, October 21, 1990. B. Finances - There was a conversation on the budget projections for 1991. Ms. Hedges pointed out that it will be a challenging year for fundraising. Goals need to be reached to sustain self-sufficiency. Ms. Hedges informed the board that the wrong weekly recap was mailed. The new weekly recap was handed out and looks good. C. Fundraising - Tile Wall - Mr. Spokes asked why the tiles were limited to 80? Ms. Hedges stated that 36 tiles have been sold and the goal is to have 80 tiles sold by the end of the year. There is a total of 224 tiles. Ms. Eisenbrey asked who did the designs on the tiles? Ms. Hedges indicated that one of their designers is Monica Redquist. She also suggested to look at other tiles and designers or to design one yourself. A form needs to be filled out and a meeting set up with a designer. People can purchase tiles at the opening and reserve an adjacent spot. A letter requesting $300 was sent to the Golden Kiwanis for the Scholarship Fund. D. Grand Opening - Ms. Hedges assigned places for the Board at the Opening. Ms. Smith indicated that she will not be able to attend the opening because she will be on vacation. Mr. Spokes asked how many speakers there will be and where they will be taking place? Mr. Kojetin pointed out that there will be seven speakers. They will be outside in front of the Art Center in the parking lot. Board members should be to the Art Center by 2:45 p.m. Betty Paugh and Marion Ward will be bringing in refreshments and cookies. E. Other Holiday Party - The Holiday party will be held on Friday, December 14, 1990. It was decided the party will be Pot Luck at the Edina Art Center at 6:30 p.m. Edinamite - The Edinamite Committee asked if the Art Center could donate more to the silent auction. Ms. Hedges stated that the Foundation has been very generous in past years and that the Art Center should show their support. Dodie Paul stated that she will donate a pet portrait, Mollie Paulson will give a Table Top Art Book and Dee Dege volunteered to provide face painting at a party. Also a gift certificate for $25 and a family membership will be given. Proceeds from this year's Edinamite will go to the Teen Center. Mr. Van Valkenburg indicated that the Board should apply for funds from the foundation by filling out a special form. Mollie Paulson stated that she and Don Peddie will follow up on this. Grants - Ms. Paulson and Mr. Peddie asked the Board if anyone had experience acquiring and writing grants? Ms. Dege informed the board that she has had some successful grant proposals and would be willing to help. Halloween - Ms. Hedges indicated that this year people can come into the Art Center to have their kids faces painted. There is no charge but donations will be accepted. Openings - Ms. Paulson thanked everyone who showed up at the openings. 1991 Exhibits - Ms. Paulson indicated that in March Anthony R. Whelihan will be having a show and bringing in celebrities. Gift Gallery - Ms. Paulson indicated there will be a holiday sale and for everyone to encourage friends to buy Christmas items from the gallery. Retail is down all around the country and everyone can help. Building - Mr. Kojetin indicated that the building is almost done. The black top looks great. Next year there will be some more cleaning up done on the parking lot. The big thing left to do is sodding. There will be no regular board meeting November 15th but the "Ways and Means" Committee will meet at 7:30 a.m. IV ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned at 8:00 a.m.
