EDINA ART CENTER MEMBERS PRESENT: Betty Paugh, Liz Eisenbrey, Judy Smith, Sharon Hale, Sandra Clark, Donna Skagerberg, Art Dickey STAFF PRESENT: Bob Kojetin, Diana Hedges, Mollie Paulson, Jean Adams, Monica Sullivan OTHERS PRESENT: Peggy Kelly I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the August meeting were approved after correcting the date for the Children's Theatre Tour from Feb. 20th to Dec. 20th. II. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Total number of students to date is 338, with 5 days left before classes begin. We added an extra drawing class on Sat. afternoon to accommodate students when the morning session filled. We also added an extra kindergarten class for Mon. mornings. In addition to Sept. 10th Happening, we had 60 new members of the Woman's Club for a tour and slide show. They presented us with a donation of $150.00. We also had a group of 20 from a church circle for a tour and coffee on Sept. 17. Shirley Taylor was presented with the First Bank Annual Community Service Award. The award included a check for $100.00 for one of her favorite organizations - the Art Center. The opening of the Instructors' Show was Sept. 7, along with the entries for the Edina Park Scene Contest. We had a group of 50 -.60 people here for the opening. Sandra Clark was the hospitality chairperson. Mollie had arranged to have Susan Hibbs here to volunteer to take care of the Gift Gallery which was very helpful. *The winner of the Scene contest was Arthur Parker who sub- mitted a photgraph of Bredesen Park. Marion Ward assisted in hanging the show. We sold almost $200.00 in Clark Gift Gallery sales that day. Mollie Paulson reported sales at this time last year were $2625.00. so far this year $5109.00. The opening for Mike Traub's wildlife illustrations and the sculptures from the Society of Minnesota Sculptors, will be on Sun., Oct. 5th from 2-4 pm. The Edina Foundation has generously donated the remaining money for our sign - ($1,100.00). We need to update our slide presentation. A current picture of the Board will be taken at the Oct. meeting. Our fund raising letter should go out in Oct. The committee is Sharon Hale, Betty Paugh, Art Dickey and Donna Skagerberg. The minutes of the last meeting were mailed on Thur., but most did not receive them until Tues. We will send them out earlier next time. Diana asked about the progress of the Art Center stickers. It was decided to go ahead with the previously approved stickers, only in green with white let- ters as the yellow is 10 more each. Peggy Kelly suggested we may want to keep the City informed of our progress. There will be an advertising budget next year. City Council has recommended all facilities raise their fees 10%. Bob Kojetin will check on this as we have just raised some of our prices. Diana says the Art Center is really making an effort to promote "come enjoy your art center, have coffee, read a book, meet friends, etc. You do not need to be an artist to enjoy." Diana asked if there was any progress in replacing Phyllis Haywa who resigned from the Board in June. Bob Kojetin will check on this. OLD BUSINESS 265 invitations were sent for the Sept. 10th Happening. We had about 60 guests. The gift shop sold $247.00; we acquired one friend, one Member and two Patrons. All felt it was good PR. Donna Skagerberg feels that. it's important to start working on next year's "Art In The Park". She and Pat Greer have been checking on the spaces avail- able at Edinborough. Donna'would also like to set the date before Jan. so she can send information out in Jan. If there is going to be limited space, she would like us to think about whether it will be a juried event or first come, first served. She also feels we should think about raising the price because of it being inside. The possibility of charging people an entrance fee to come in and shop was mentioned. Donna Skagerberg will be resigning in Jan. She thinks we should start now to replace her, as well as Phyllis Haywa, so we won't end up with two empty spots on the Board. Bob Kojetin will check on the number of responses to the news- paper article and perhaps we can get two people from that list. Bob said he can give us the procedure that has been set up for selecting Board Members. Sharon Hale says she has already had 3 calls asking us please not to have the masquerade event. The idea has been cancelled for now. Sandy Clark feels strongly that the Art Center name should be on top of the new electric sign. She would also like a count to be done on traffic East bound on 66th Street versus South bound on Valley View. Bob will put up an 8x4' panel with our next opening information on it so we can see about placement, etc. The sign will have three lines on it. THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE ON THUR., OCT. 16 AT 7:30 AM.
