HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-08-22 Arts Culture Commission MinutesEDINA ART CENTER BOARD 4: 00pm August 22, 1996 Edina Art Center MEMBERS PRESENT: Dodie Paul, Art Dickey, Suzie Kelm, Dee Dege, Heather Randall King, Sandra Clark, George Kuebler MEMBERS ABSENT: Liz Eisenbrey, Jim VanValkenburg, Gene Andersen STAFF PRESENT: Solvei Swenson and Diana Hedges I. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order at 4:10pm by Sandra Clark, Acting Chair. II. MINUTES Corrections to the minutes by George Kuebler (item # 5). George is judging the Juried Show and Bradley Benn is coordinating the exhibit. Heather Randall King noted that there was not going to be a "meal" at the Fundraiser. It would be hors d'oeuvres. III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT A. Dodie Paul currently has an exhibit at the 50th Street Library. B. Garage Sale is going well. We've already exceeded last year. Thanks to Dee Dege for helping all day on Tuesday to mark items. It was decided that there would be no pre-sales. C. George Kuebler present a proposal for new lighting and gallery improvements. He will be meeting with the Building Committee to carry out some of his ideas. D. Bradley could still use some help for the Juried Show. Heather mentioned that the opening falls on the same date as the Symphony as it did last year. We need set-up, hosts, and a clean up committee. Heather also reported that she was successful in soliciting a $1,000 donation from the Kopp's for the Juried Show. Dodie Paul volunteered to help with the bring of the artwork. She has already done the labeling for the art. E. Diana reported that we are almost $4,000 ahead on class registration this year so far. F. We will be participating in the Completely Kid's Fair on October 5 (10-6pm) and Sunday, October 6 from 11:00am-?pm at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Last year more that 20,000 people attended. We are sharing the cost of the booth with Bloomington, Minnetonka, Fridley, so the cost for us will only be $150. We will also share the time at the booth with the other three Art Centers. G. We have received a request from Jerry Dalen to be on the Board. Jim VanValkenburg will be giving it to the Mayor. Solvei will check on who and how we notify the public that we are in need of a Board Member, IV. CAMERA CLUB UPDATE Art Dickey reported that the Camera Club now has 126 members. Some of the members had a field trip to Bayfield Wisconsin last weekend. He stated that the treasury of the Club was not in very good shape due to overspending at the Banquet in June, but Memberships should be coming in. The dues were raised to $15 for this year. V. Heather's Report Solvei: I can't remember when Sandy said about that she volunteered to have the Volunteer Luncheon in her home on April 25, but want to make sure it gets in minutes. Also on the Dee Dege using lead in pottery department: I will Bradley call her to reassure her of our safety standards. Thanks!
