Spokes, Art Dickey, Dee Dege, Heather King, Dodie Paul, and Elizabeth Eisenbrey MEMBERS ABSENT: Gene Ander;n, Sandy Clark, Susan Kelm, Jim VanValkenburg and Richard Wyatt STAFF PRESENT: Diana Hedges, John Keprios and Solvei Swenson I. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by at 7:33 a.m. by Vice Chair, Peter R. Spokes II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The Minutes from January 26, 1995 board meeting had one correction. Under the heading of "Annual Board and Commission Dinner" Ms. Dege stated it was a good way of networking and not Ms. Paul. Dodie Paul MOVED TO APPROVE THE JANUARY 26, 1995 MINUTES AS CORRECTED. Seconded. MOTION CARRIED. III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT - Diana Hedges A. CLASSES Summer registration is going well. Camps are filling. B. FINANCES AND FUNDRAISING 1. Sever Peterson's Fruit Stands Once again Sever Peterson will be able to have his fruit stands in the city and the Art Center will receive $1,000 for each stand. There will also be one other vender in the city. 2. Pumpkins There may be a pumpkin stand at Cornelia Park in the fall for another fund raiser for the Art Center. 3. Valentine Fundraiser The fund raiser brought in $2,200, which is $200 over the goal. The same thing is planned for next year. The instructors will be asked to donated more valentines next year. This year 200 invites were sent out and 49 people responded. 4. Auction Postcards and posters regarding the auction were hand made by Jane Riffey and Melissa Smallman, an intern from Hamline University. Diana Hedges expressed her appreciation for their work. Ms. Paul and Ms. Dege will help when they can with the auction. C. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITI Ms. Hedges stated Brad Benn is looking for help with the Juried Show. Volunteers are needed for the root beer stand at the Edina Art Fair, June 2,3 & 4. Heather King volunteered to help. Ms. Hedges expressed her appreciation for the help that Steve from the 50th Street liquor store has given. D. TOURS AND TRIPS The Art Center has registration for trips to Lutsen, Chicago, France and Hawaii. E. OTHER 1. Mug John Keprios, Director of Park and Recreation, was given his own coffee mug from the board. 2. Art-in-Bloom Mr. Spokes commented on the Art-in-Bloom show case and what a positive event it is. 3. Garden Council Plant Sale The Edina Art Center will have flower pots for sale at the plant sale. 4. Advertising Ms. Eisenbrey asked about advertising to increase membership to the art center. A discussion was held as to the expense and other options to advertising. The About Town magazine was mentioned along with the Edina Sun Current. Discussion regarding members benefits also occurred. No further discussion or decisions were made. F. ADJOURNMENT Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
