June 22, 1995 Edina Art Center MEMBERS PRESENT: Elizabeth Eisenbrey, Dodie Paul, Art Dickey, Suzie Kelm, Jim VanValkenburg, Dee Dege, and Gene Andersen MEMBERS ABSENT: Sandy Clark, Heather Randall-King, and Peter R. Spokes STAFF PRESENT: Diana Hedges and Solvei Swenson I. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order at 7:35 a.m. by Chair, Jim VanValkenburg II. MINUTES Liz Eisenbrey MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 27TH, 1995 MEETING AS WRITTEN. Art Dickey SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED. III. MEETING TIME CHANGE A request from Ms. King to change the time of day for the meeting was discussed. Ms. Paul suggested changing the day of the meeting and keeping the time. Ms. Eisenbrey and Ms. Kelm suggested changing the meeting to an afternoon time. Since Ms. King was absent and her input would be welcomed, Dodie Paul MOVED TO TABLE THE DISCUSSION UNTIL THE NEXT MEETING. Motion was SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED. IV. DIRECTOR'S REPORT A. Sever Peterson Produce Sever Peterson Produce stands are open. Visit them at the Edina Pool, Braemar Golf Course and Yorktown Park. B. Auction The auction went well. The goal was to raise $3,500 and $3,825 was raised. A thanks to Melissa Smallman for her volunteer work. C. Garage Sale The Art Center will be holding a garage sale, August 17. Bring your items in August 14th. D. Minnesota Splash The Art Center will be having face and tennis shoe painting again. There still are time slots to be filled. E. 50th and France Art Fair A thank to Steve from the liquor stores for the idea of the Root Beer stand. It was a big success. F. Juried Show Brad Benn needs help with the Juried Show, please call him if you can help. G. Student Show Thank you to Ms. King for being so helpful during the set-up of the student show. It was the biggest student opening ever. I-I. Crosstown Camera Club The Crosstown Camera Club will have its first annual awards banquet tonight. There are over 33 people coming. The camera club in two years time has acquired over 60 members. I. Shows Photographs are currently on display at Edinborough Park. August 17 there will be the opening of Jean and George Kieblers works. J. Chicago The Edina Art Center in sponsorship with other art centers is offering a trip to see the Monet exhibit in Chicago. It is just about booked. K. Open House The Art Center will hold an open house, July 4 from 5 to 10:30 p.m. V. OTHER A. MEMBERSHIP Liz Eisenbrey is seeking suggestions to encourage new members. She suggested offering a bonus or incentive gift for new members. Ms. Hedges suggested t-shirts or 10% off a class. Ms. Paul suggested 10-15% off at the gift shop. There was a positive response to tlY- class discount suggestion. The reduced rate at the gift shop could create some problems. Ms. Dege suggested offering a "Bring a Friend" tour to encourage members to bring non-members in. Ms. Eisenbrey stated that the largest number of renewals and new members is in the fall. She will work on ideas before then. B. BOARD MEMBERS A congratulation was extended to Ms. Dege on her new grandchild. C. ART CENTER The Art Center will have charge card services soon. The center will accept Mastercard and Visa. The Art Center is also trying to put registration and room scheduling on the computer. VI. ADJOURNMENT Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 a.m.
