February 18, 1993 Edina Art Center MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: STAFF PRESENT: Don Peddie, Liz Eisenbrey, Heather Randall King, Dodie Paul, Art Dickey, Peter R. Spokes, Dee Dege, Gene Andersen, Sandra Clark, Susan Kelm. Jim VanValkenburg Diana Hedges, Bob Kojetin, Susan Frame and Solvei Swenson Meeting called to order at 7:35 a.m by Vice Chair, Peter R. Spokes. I. APPROVAL OF THE JANUARY MINUTES Dodie Paul MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 21, 1993 MEETING. Gene Andersen SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED. II. WELCOME GENE ANDERSEN Mr. Spokes introduced and welcomed new board member Gene Andersen. III. BOARD OFFICERS Dodie Paul MOVED TO HAVE PETER R. SPOKES AS CHAIR OF THE BOARD. Discussion on procedure. Ms. Paul WITHDREW MOTION. Dee Dege MOVED TO RETAIN CURRENT OFFICERS. Art Dickey SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED. IV. SILENT AUCTION REPORT FOR SWEET SIXTEEN - Susan Frame, Auction Chair Susan Frame is a member of the Art Center staff. She has worked for the Art Center for 13 years. She has a commitment to the center and has shown it through her donations of art, managing the gift shop and volunteering. Ms. Frame requested that the board members become "movers and shakers" to help obtain donations for the auction. To date they have received about $9000 in donations which is down $5000 to $7000 from previous years, an all time low. She requested that the board members encourage their contacts to donate. Donators will receive free publicity and be listed on a contributors list. The list will be posted at the Art Center which has 4000 students and an estimated 2000 visitors pass through it in a year. The deadline to get contributors name in the catalogue is March 1. Ms. Frame distributed a list of names and a "wish list" for donations. She requested the boards help in solicitating donations. V. STEERING COMMITTEE Diana Hedges stated that tickets are on sale and there is seating for 168. Suzy Kelm has taken care of entertainment and publicity Ms. King suggested having a drawing to blow out the candles after the cake presentation. Discussion was held regarding the food and drink. The liquor license held by the Edina Foundation is non-transferable due to state regulations. As a result, there will be only wine and beer at the Sweet Sixteen. - INVITATIONS The invitations were designed by Sandy Clark and drawn by Jane Riffey. They will be sent out this week. DECORATIONS Sandy Clark has decorations planned. Set-up will be Friday night with balloons set-up on Saturday. Ms. Eisenbrey volunteered to help set up. - THANK-YOUS Dee Dege is taking care of sending thank you notes. VI. OTHER Ms. King inquired whether there will be an "Edinamite" this year. There will not be. Meeting adjourned 8:15 p.m.
