Spokes, Art Dickey, Heather King, Dee Dege, Gene Andersen, Sandy Clark, Susan Kelm MEMBERS ABSENT: Jim VanValkeburg, Elizabeth Eisenbrey, Delores Paul, Don Peddie STAFF PRESENT: Diana Hedges and Solvei Swenson Meeting was called to order by Peter R. Spokes at 7:40 a.m. I. APPROVAL OF FEBRUARY MINUTES Heather King MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM THE FEBRUARY 18, 1993 MEETING. Art Dickey SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED. II. RECAP OF VOLUNTEER LUNCHEON The Volunteer Luncheon was a great success. Rose Burns was the caterer and the cost of the function was less than $50. There were more people this year than the year before; approximately 40 people compared to 25 people. Mr. Rosland, City Manager, was one of the people in attendance. III. SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNTS Currently, there is a 10% discount for people ages 65 and older. This results in $1500 given away through discounts each year. It was discussed to eliminate the discount since other park facilities do not have or are eliminating theirs. Heather King MOVED TO ELIMINATE THE SENIOR DISCOUNT. Gene Andersen SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED. If this is a hardship for people, direct them to the scholarship. IV. COMMUNITY CENTER UPDATE It was discussed that the Edina Community Education has duplicate services that the Art Center offers. Diana Hedges will talk with Doug Johnson at the Community Center to try to eliminate this conflict. V. FUNDRAISING The survey regarding the Benefit has been sent. Approximately 50 were sent and 12 have been returned. The surveys asked questions on the time of year, time of day: early or later, and food. The responses were mostly positive. The food was rated poor. Susan Frame did a wonderful job on the auction. Ms. Hedges suggested changing Celebrate the Arts auction to a separate event and hold it in early spring. Have people pay $15 for a bid number and have a silent auction during the week with a verbal auction ending it on the weekend. It could last ten days and be held at the Edina Art Center without taking any class space. There wouldn't be a band and overhead would be way down. April 7 - 17th was suggested as the auction dates with the silent auction ending on the 17th with a reception. Consensus of the board was to try the auction as a separate event, April 7th - 17th. Ms. Hedges suggested possibly having a country western dance for a fundraiser in the country. It was expressed that the drive probably would limit the number of people attending. Edinborough Park may be a possibility. The Fireside Suppers are scheduled for November 7th. VI. CLASSES Spring session enrollment is up. There are 50 art camps, including 3 new ones. A donation of $2000 was received from John and MaryLou Dasburg for the scholarship fund. The board discussed giving some recognition for the large gift. A MOTION WAS MADE AND PASSED TO THANK JOHN AND MARYLOU DASBURG FOR THEIR DONATION TO THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND. VII. GALLERY REPORT - JURIED SHOW The date set for the Juried Show will be September 30th. It will be the same format as last year. Barb DeCosse will open her show "Connect 4" at Edinborough, July 1. It will run until August 4. VIII. OTHER Benefit Garage Sale is going on today and tomorrow. Art Dickey was in the paper for Edina Business Person of the Year. A new committee is being formed for the new photo lab. Heather King suggested having the photo labs grand opening tied in with the Fireside dinners. Meeting adjourned 8:24 a.m.
