MEMBERS ABSENT: Jim VanValkenburg, and Don Peddie
STAFF PRESENT: Diana Hedges, Bob Kojetin, and Solvei Swenson
Meeting called to order by Peter R. Spokes at 7:30 a.m.
I. APPROVAL OF JUNE MINUTES
Sandy Clark MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM THE JUNE 17,
1993 MEETING. Gene Andersen SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED.
II. JURIED SHOW REPORT
Heather King stated that the letters are ready to be mailed.
The mailing list was distributed for the board members to
review and add a personal note where possible. Bradley Benn
is lining up the judges for the show.
III. PHOTO LAB REPORT
Art Dickey stated that the lab is developing. Part of a
large store room at the Art Center will be converted to the
photo lab.
A $50 donation was received from Peggy Kelly. Paul Mullens
from Fast Foto has promised a donation. Kelm Foundation has
granted $500 for the lab. Mr. Spokes asked how much money
is the lab looking for? Mr. Dickey didn't know because they
are seeking donated items first.
IV. MINNESOTA SPLASH
Ms. Hedges recently purchased for the Art Center a portable
kiosk. It can be 150' long. It will be used at the Edina
Art Fair and at the Minnesota Splash at Centennial Lakes.
Minnesota Splash will be good exposure for the Art Center.
It is set up to give exposure to events that occur
throughout the state of Minnesota. They are anticipating
10,000 people. There is a need for more volunteers on
Saturday and Sunday.
V. FUNDRAISING
-Celebrate the Arts survey had eight forms returned. The
rating was from one to ten, 1=poor, 10=great. There was a
mixed review on the food from poor to good. The location,
entertainment, value, length of the event, decorations, time
of year were all evaluated. They all came out well.
-A big thanks to Dodie Paul who did face painting at the
Minnetonka Ice Cream Social and earned some money for the
Art Center. Next year she will need help.
-The Garage Sale netted $700 which was down from previous
years. And face painting at 50th and France netted $220.
-Fireside Suppers and the photo lab grand opening will try
to be tied in together. The Fireside Supper is scheduled
for November 7. Bob Kojetin suggested checking with
Community Education on photo lab equipment for the art
center lab.
VI. CLASSES
The Saturday classes are going very well. There are 8
people on a waiting list for the drawing class.
Ms. Hedges stated that there are three teachers leaving the
center this fall due to new jobs and new locations:
Margaret Gust, Betsy Bryant, and Tara Carmichael.
The center is setting up classes for homeschoolers (students
studying at home, not in a school setting).
Ms. Hedges spoke with Community Education on duplication of
services and are working on correcting that.
VII. GALLERY REPORT
Barbara DeCosse opening has been very good. She has sold 6
paintings.
New Mexico showing opens August 5, 1993, from 5:00pm
7:00pm.
VIII. OTHER
An opportunity for a group from the Art Center to be at
channel 5's "Good Company", August 24.
Karen Knutson's watercolor weekend at Lutsen was a big
success.
The Scene contest entries are due August 26th. One of the
suggested scenes is the Edina Aquatic Center.
