Meeting called to order by Jim VanValkenburg at 7:30 a.m.
I. APPROVAL OF JULY MINUTES
Peter R. Spokes MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM THE JULY 15,
1993 MEETING. Art Dickey Seconded. MOTION CARRIED.
II. JURIED SHOW REPORT
Ms. King reported that the juried show for the end of September
is not going to bring in as much money as it did last year. A
reason for this may be that the same list is used for each fund
raising event the art center holds and donations are asked from
those people. It was suggested that separate lists be generated
so that each group or person isn't solicited so often. Have one
to four major fundraisers per event. Another possibility for the
low return is that the letter was sent out too early, people
still out on summer vacations.
Byerly's and Jerry's are providing food.
Gene Andersen stated that they are still looking for volunteers
to help with the art show.
III. MAILING LIST POLICY
Discussion about letting the mailing list be distributed by
request outside of the Art Center. There was concern expressed
that once the list leaves the control of the Art Center that it
could be used inappropriately. The board questioned how to
protect the list.
Jim VanValkenburg suggested not permitting the list out for
commercial use. Sandy Clark did not want the list distributed.
Dee Dege suggested doing the mailing for the organization for a
fee.
Peter R. Spokes MOVED TO HAVE DIANA WRITE A POLICY STATEMENT FOR
THE NEXT BOARD MEETING. Sandy Clark SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED.
IV. FIRESIDE SUPPERS
Sample letter was distributed. The board liked it with some
minor changes.
Last years Fireside Suppers were a good experience.
A list of hosts should be in by October 10th.
V. FUNDRAISERS
Celebrate the Arts will open March 12 with a casual party
and the auction will be held later.
- The auction will be May 4 to May 15. The first 10 days
would be a silent auction and a verbal auction finale on May
15. There was discussion on the price for obtaining a bid
number. The price for a bid number will be ten dollars.
- Volunteers are needed for the Fireside Suppers and Celebrate
the Arts. Diana Hedges has spoken with Sally Johnson from
RSVP to obtain seniors for volunteer help. There was some
discussion on "burn-out" from the board members. There is a
need for some new volunteers.
