A leaflet has been developed describing the various activities available in the studios, such as making T-shirts, which will be distributed to scout troops and schools. The Brown Bag Break series of lunch time classes is being expanded to two each day (one before and one after lunch) and more individual task-oriented sessions are being offered in the Microsoft Office programs (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Several board members had suggestions for different types of special interest groups which could be contacted regarding making team or club videos. IV. Suggestions for volunteers to be honored should be submitted to Jim VanValkenburg. Reservations are due to Susan Heiberg at Edina City Hall by April 15th . V. MISSION STATEMENT The City of Edina recently adopted a new Mission Statement. Ms. Hedges suggested that the Art Center Mission Statement could also be revised to broaden the scope of activities which are currently being offered. After discussion, the board recommended deleting the term "visual arts". The relevant passage will now read: "... participation, education, and enjoyment in the arts, with emphasis on fine art." 2 VI. FEDERATED WOMEN'S CLUB GRANT Ms. Hedges reported that Liz Eisenbrey has obtained a commitment from the Federated Women's Club for a grant in the amount of $1,000. VII. DIRECTOR'S REPORT A. This exhibit will open Thursday, April 27th and continue through May 17th. B. Classes Registration for classes is holding steady which indicates the price increases for 2000 have had little negative effect. Board members were invited to take quantities of Phoenix brochures and class schedules to drop off at businesses and take-one stands. The Phoenix brochures should be distributed this year because the phone prefix changes in 2001. C. Edina Community Foundation The Edina Community Foundation Ball will be held on Saturday, April 29th at the Radisson South hotel. The theme for this year is Edina Heritage. The Art Center has been asked to come up with ideas for decorations and to set up a decorations committee. Next actions to be decided at a meeting on Tuesday, March 28th. D. Other Art Center instructor Michael Frey is featured this month on Community Cable's "Artifacts" program. We will have copies of the program in our video library. Next month, instructor Ken Wenzel will be on the program. These opportunities were set up by Media Studios instructor Trish Hodges. The City of Edina has a new Communications Director. Jennifer Wilkinson is on- board and is already doing a great job as the central focus for publicity as well as maintaining the city Web Site. A schedule of events and volunteer opportunities was distributed. Special thanks go to Gene Anderson, who comes in once a week to work at the front desk. She also covers the desk on the first Thursday of the month so all staff can attend a 3 staff meeting. It's not too early to begin signing up volunteers to help with artist sign-ins and hanging for the Members Juried Art Show beginning September 7th. Ruth Valgemae is the first volunteer. VIII.
