EARTH DAY IN EDINA
April 22, 2024
WHEREAS, Earth Day is commemorated annually on April 22 to demonstrate support for
environmental protection, advance sustainability initiatives, and raise awareness about
climate change; and
WHEREAS, the City of Edina is committed to addressing climate change and has taken steps to
reduce its carbon footprint, conserve natural resources and foster environmental
stewardship; and
WHEREAS, in 2021, the City of Edina adopted a Climate Action Plan, which lays the foundation for
those who live and work in Edina to imagine a future where the Earth and all who live
on it can thrive. This plan outlines our commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
45 percent by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. It includes integrating
sustainability into our programs, policies, and activities; and
WHEREAS, Edina residents and businesses have demonstrated a commitment to environmental
sustainability through various initiatives, such as adopting renewable energy, participating
in the organics recycling program and supporting local conservation efforts; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day serves as a reminder of our responsibility to the Earth and to future
generations to leave a livable world.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Edina, MN, hereby proclaim April 22, 2024, as
EARTH DAY IN EDINA
and encourage all residents and businesses to:
• Recognize the importance of protecting our environment and connba *ng climate change;
• Participate in local Earth Day events and initiatives aimed at environnn ntal education and action;
• Commit to making sustainable choices that reduce our impact on the lanet;
• Support programs that promote clean energy, conservation and a It y, sustainable future.
