The Edina Park and Recreation Department and Edina Health Partners are teaming up to help teach some of the important safety skills middle school students should know. “Be in the know…” is Edina’s first Safety Day specifically designed for middle school students. At the Safety Day, students will learn about chemical health, piercing and tattoos, nutrition and exercise, recreation with risk, safe use of technology and Edina High School students will present information on substance abuse. In addition to the information, students who attend will get food and a chance to win fun prizes. “Be in the know…” is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m., Friday, March 25, which is a school holiday. The event will be held at the South Metro Training Facility, 7525 Braemar Blvd. The Park and Recreation Department also helps produce an annual Safety Camp for students entering the fourth grade. Last summer, students learned about various safety skills from Edina’s Police and Fire departments, a local meteorologist and other knowledgeable speakers.
