Mayor begins accepting nominations for
commendations
Edina, Minn., Jan. 25, 2005 – Mayor James B. Hovland is accepting nominations for six
commendations to be presented this spring at the City of Edina’s 26th annual Volunteer Recognition
Reception.
Each spring, the City hosts the Volunteer Recognition Reception to recognize those in the
community that give back to make Edina the premiere place for living, learning, raising families and
doing business. At the event, local organizations honor their volunteers. In addition, the mayor
honors individuals and organizations that have been selected to receive Mayor’s Commendations.
The commendations are:
Mayor’s Service Club Commendation
Awarded to a club or organization that has made outstanding contributions to the community through its
regular activities or through special projects.
Mayor’s Outstanding Senior Commendation
Awarded to a senior citizen for outstanding volunteer service within the community.
Mayor’s Youth Commendation
Awarded to a young person who has demonstrated a commitment to improving the quality of life in the
community.

Mayor’s Community Involvement Commendation
Awarded to a City employee for outstanding volunteer service to the community, above and beyond his
or her position with the City.
Mayor’s Connecting With Kids Commendation
Awarded to an individual or organization making a positive impact in the lives of Edina youth.
The 2005 Volunteer Recognition Reception will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at Edinborough
Park, 7700 York Ave. S. Nominations for the Mayor’s Commendations are due 4:30 p.m. Friday, March
