New Edina police officer sworn in
Edina, Minn., May 18, 2004 – Brandon Sheffert was sworn in earlier this month as the Edina
Police Department’s newest officer.
Sheffert, 22, began work as a Police Officer Monday, May 17. City Clerk Debra Mangen
administered the oath to him Tuesday, May 18. Sheffert was sworn in with Chief of Police Mike
Siitari at his side and surrounded by his fellow officers, family and friends. Sheffert’s mother, Danya
Spencer, pinned his badge, No. 182, on his uniform.
Sheffert, a 2000 graduate of Edina High School, recently completed a program at the Center for
Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement in St. Paul and holds an associate’s degree in law
enforcement from Normandale Community College. He completed an internship with the
Minnesota State Patrol and worked as a community service officer in St. Louis Park for two years
before joining the Edina Police Department.
“I am really excited to work for the Police Department in Edina where I was born and raised and
where my parents still live,” said Sheffert, one of 10 Edina natives on the force. “I look forward to
serving the community in this way.”
Sheffert is currently completing the Edina Police Department’s training program and will begin work
as a patrol officer in late summer. The Edina Police Department is located at 4801 W. 50th St.
