You will recall that the present light is mounted on an old type wooden pole, and leaves much to be desired in terms of appearance. I wish to have it replaced with one of the modern units having underground wires and the appearance of a gas lantern. You informed me that such an exchange is possible, and I along with Mr. Fred Scaife of 5816 Jeff Place, hereby petition the Village to obtain a firm quotation from NSP to have the work carried out. As part of this petition, Mr. Bob Edwards of 6112 Arbour Avenue and Mr. Donald Bunker of 5841 Jeff Place request the same service. Mr. Edwards has two poles serving one street light on the corner of Jeff Place and Arbour Avenue, and Mr. Bunker has one pole serving a light at Jeff Place and Olinger Road. Thank you for your attention to this request. Very truly Yours. T. E. Larsen, 5812 Jeff Place Bob Edwards, 6112 Arbour Avenue TEF /lb Fred H. Scaife, 5816 Jeff Place v . This action on our part is motivated by the accident which befell Charles Tambornino on the evening of January 22, 1973. It was most fortunate that the trauma sustained by the boy, though quite severe, was not life threatening and will probably not be disabling. It is our belief that preventative measures taken at this time may well avoid the recurrence of a similar incident. Let me review for you briefly the details of the accident that occurred on January 22, 1973, at about 6:00 p.m. to the son of Dr. Joseph Tambornino. As Charles was unloading salt from the family station wagon, which was drawn part way up on the Tambornino's drive -way but still facing south, Mrs. Joseph Brennan of 6425 Indian Hills Road struck the Tambornino automobile, crushing Charles' leg between the two cars. Mrs. Brennan was driving her children to the Braemer Skating Rink and she did not see the Tambornino car nor Charles until she was right on top of them and the accident had, essentially, occurred. Dr. Tambornino, Mrs. Brennan, and Mr. C. Larry Stewert of 6613 Dakota Trail (who lives immediately across the street from the Tambornino house) are all of the opinion that if there had been better lighting Mrs. Brennan would have seen the Tambornino car sooner and probably in time to avoid the accident. The only lighting on Dakota Trail is at the intersection of 66th Street and then again two blocks further up at 68th Street. The Tamborninos are at the top of a hill and get little, if any, illumination from either of the street lights. We wish to thank you in advance, for considering this problem and, after due evaluation, for the initiation of remedial action. Sincerely Hegr`y Buchwald, M. President Indian Hills Community Council 6808 Margaret's Lane Edina, Minnesota 55435 February 15, 1973 Dr. Henry Buchwald .6808 Margaret's Lane Edina, Minnesota 55435 Dear Dr. Buchwalds In reply to your letter requesting street lights on Dakota Trail, the Village of "Edina is only too pilling to install street lights (either overhead type or ornamental whichever the residents wish) but only on a petition from the abutting property owners. For the overhead type light the four abutting property owners must be in agreement and sign the petition. This type of light is installed at no cost,to the property.owners but -.they must all agree to. the light as we-have had to remove too.many in the past (the light shines in bedroom windows - .ruins TV etc.). .The ornamental style, such as in Braemar Hills, -requires underground wiring and the cost of installing such a system is assessed.against the abutting property owners. It is difficult to estimate the cost of such a system unless the exact area to be serviced would be predetermined. if there is interest in either type of system and there are any questions, please contact the Engineering Department at 927 -8861. It•is also possible to set up a neighborhood meeting and discuss the different possibilities. Please find enclosed several petition forms for street light - ing. Yours very truly,' Robert L.
